On 17 February 2019 Penistone Scouts will be running water stations at the British heart Foundation half marathon and 10K run at Harewood House near leeds. This is a project thet the group has been involved with for the last few years and is an opportunity for scouts to give something back to the community whilst earning some badges too.
Scouts will depart the scout hut at 07.15 am promptly as we need to be on site by 8.15 am. We will be travelling by minibus so your scout has been selected to have one of the limited places on offer. We are usually home by 3,30 pm but this will depend on departure time on the day and traffic.
Scouts should wrap up warm and only need a necker. They should also bring plenty of snacks, drinks and a packed lunch on the day. Some of the water stations require us to walk back to the finish line (the quick way) but this is still a hike so walking boots are required, Scouts will need to carry everything that they bring with them.
-Warm clothing including jumper / Hat / Gloves
-Packed lunch / snacks / drinks
-Waterproofs (top and bottom) as there is no shelter at all
-Sense of humour for when scouts realise that the nearest bush is the toilet
There is nowhere to buy anything so no money is required.
The water stations entail handing out water bottles to runners with caps removed hence the need to arrive early. These bottle tops have to be collected otherwise the runners throw them away and they are eaten by livestock that roam around the Harewood estate.
This is a great day out and an opportunity for scouts to give something back as BHF rely on volunteers to provide manpower
