Despite the freezing weather (4C) representatives from Veterans, the Armed Forces, local bands, Scouts, Guides and many other members of our community paid their respects, sans coats, so that uniforms could be seen and the gravity formality brings prevails.

Parts of the event were streamed and broadcast live on Penistone FM; making the parade accessible to those who couldn’t make the event physically. To hear it again, visit Penistone FM’s page and access their Listen Again catch-up service.

A packed Church saw Father David lead the congregation through hymns, reflective sermon and prayer. A particular favourite moment for many was Father David’s visual demonstration, aided by a Penistone Beaver Scout, of how many lives have been lost due to wars. A simple but highly effective representation, conveyed by pouring a bucket filled with grains into another; with every grain representing one human being’s life lost – a message that was both powerful and emotive.
