Each year, the young people and adult volunteers of Penistone Scouts’ parade through the town centre of Penistone before taking part in a service of Remembrance both outside and inside St John’s Church. We do this proudly alongside other youth organisations, the British Legion and other fabulous volunteers. Sadly, due to Coronavirus, the group are unlikely to take part in this important and prestigious moment of respect. We refuse to let the occasion pass by without acknowledging it. We are looking into what digital options might be possible on Remembrance Sunday, in the meantime, we have two plans in motion.

Saluting the fallen

Every member of Penistone Scouts will be posted a commemorative badge for their uniform. We would like this to be sewn on the young people’s uniform. Once in place, we’re asking for a photograph of the young person saluting be sent to the leader team. We will then combine these into a post on our website and socials on Remembrance Day.

Supporting Poppy Appeal

Given that we will be unable to give monies via some of the traditional methods to the annual Poppy Appeal, we’ve come up with an alternative. We have created a JustGiving page where donations to the Royal British Legion can be made.

We are asking all our members, those who would attend Remembrance Sunday with the group, or anyone who wishes to donate, to give what they ordinarily would, but via the JustGiving Page we’ve set-up.

We’ve done it this way rather than collecting monies at the group so that the British Legion will benefit from the associated Gift Aid savings made when donating via JustGiving.

As a special bonus, the first 75 donations of £3 or more (that are linked to a young person within the group) a poppy woggle will be sent with their uniform badge.
