Penistone Gala weekend – Scouts are heavily involved in Penistone Gala; it’s a truly fabulous community weekend with something for everyone. Amongst our sharing of promotional materials regarding the weekend, we are going to be seeking support from you lovely people – this will vary from cake baking, helping to run catering stalls, as marshalls and many other things. If you already know you can help us, please let Steve Roach know so he can factor in your wonderful support.

With the reminders out of the way, let’s recap the week.

This week:

Enigma’s 1st birthday celebration

Our third scout troop celebrated their first birthday by heading to Hesley Wood for canoeing, raft building, and a BBQ. For the photos and a dedicated post, see here.

Alegre visit Quest Taekwondo

Alegre had their turn at Taekwondo, thanks to Quest Taekwondo in Oxspring. Thank you, Mike!

Wide games & rounders

Raptors played wide games, ending the evening with a little competitiveness between cubs and leaders in the form of rounders. The leaders won! They aren’t gloating about it – honest!

Bike maintenance

Tuesday beavers visited Cycle Penistone.

Tent practice

Wednesday beavers are looking forward to their “Back to Basics” camp next month. They practiced putting up a tent before learning how to pack it away again.

Go Go Go, Go Outdoors

Wibbles visited Go Outdoors for an introduction to kit and the outdoors. Our youngest scout Caleb won the tent challenge and successfully managed to pack away a pop-up tent in the winning time of 11 seconds.

Scorpions visit Langsett Reservoir

Millstones built fires

…and roasted marshmallows at the Scout Hut.

And finally:

Scouts Association new brand/identity

You may have seen that we shared some videos on our Facebook and Twitter relating to scouting having a new vision, brand and renewed determination to enrich the lives of more young people.

Part of this includes a new logo. We aren’t going to rush out and buy new signage for the Scout Hut, but we will begin to make some changes to our group branding. You may have already noticed we’ve updated the website logo, social media icons and some of the artwork.

A key focus for scouting is about giving young people #skillsforlife. We are exceptionally proud of the rich programme we offer young people across all sections at Penistone. We’re always excited about what’s coming up, and what opportunities can be made available.
