The week ahead (18th November 2019 onwards)

Beavers

Section meetings

Castors, Boomers and Millstones will all be thinking about ‘global’ issues. We’ll be learning about the environment and looking at water filters to find out ways we can make sure water is clean and safe to drink. Please remember to bring your consent forms for Air Haus (see below).

Future Beaver events

On Wednesday 27 November, all Beaver colonies will be spending the evening at Air Haus, Sheffield. This is instead of the usual meetings that week. Letters have been sent out about this. Please make sure the session fee is paid into the right account (see letter) and bring consent forms to your next meeting (w/c 18 November). If we don’t have a consent form before the event, unfortunately your child won’t be able to take part.

Cubs

Section meetings

Alegre and Bella Vista should be meeting as usual. You’ll get an email if there’s anything you need to know beforehand.

Raptors will be in school as usual on Thursday. We’ll be talking about healthy snacks – and eating some too. There won’t be any nuts, sesame seeds or chickpeas but please contact Akela if you’ve got any concerns about food allergies. Any parents that can stay to help this week would be very welcome – thank you.

Scouts

Section meetings

Enigma will be reviewing progress on personal challenge badges and seeing who can remember the useful knots that we learnt last week. Then we’ll either be going on a night hike or an unsupported team orienteering exercise – so please come prepared to be outside in the dark.

Wibbles will meet as usual. You’ll get an email if there’s anything special that you need to bring.

Viernes should be meeting as usual. There’ll be an email if there’s anything you need to know beforehand.

Explorers

Section meetings

Explorers will use their hard-earned scout pounds from this week’s trading post activity to buy ingredients in an auction. They’ll then use them to make some culinary delights!

Some Explorers will also be visiting Stocksbridge Leisure Centre to try out scuba diving with a local scuba club. Please don’t forget to bring your payments and consent forms.

No updates at this time.

Previously:

Beavers

Castors, Boomers and Millstones had fun with the board games they’d brought this week. It was great to see that everyone played together really well with no arguments or cheating!

Cubs

Bella Vista had a great time doing Pudsey-themed activities. We ended with a game of bingo.

Sorry, no update from Alegre in time for Rewind this week.

Raptors had great fun making junk robots. Then we voted about our Christmas party.

Scouts

Enigma worked on map skills and knots this week. We learnt about contours, latitude and longitude, and making sure the map’s the right way round. We also learnt how to use a key and bearings to identify locations on a map. We practised six useful knots and will be seeing who can remember the bowline and figure of eight next week.

We talked about the importance of attending the remembrance day parade if you are part of scouting and why it matters. Then we enjoyed finishing off with some team games.

Wibbles patrol leaders ran team games to practise their leadership skills for the first half of the troop meeting this week. We were then visited by Richard from Ghana Outlook who gave us a great insight into the issues that young people in Ghana face on a daily basis.

Sorry, no update from Viernes in time for Rewind this week.

Scorpion Explorers

Explorers took part in a trading post activity. They worked in small teams to create, buy and sell to accumulate as much money as possible.

And finally…

Looking back to last Sunday’s remembrance parades, here’s how you made us proud in Thurlstone:
