We didn’t get a summary post out last week; sorry about that. Instead, this bumper edition will cover the last fortnight!

Alegre Cubs visited Magna Colours

Our Alegre Cubs immersed themselves in the printing industry; stepping through the design, creation and printing stages.

Switzerland Thank You

Those who went to Switzerland received a pen drive filled with photos and videos from their time on the event. Bruce created and a video we shared.

Staying safe online

We shared some great Scouting resources around how to stay safe online. These are useful for both the kids and adults to look over.

2018 plans

This week, we launched our fabulous on-line calendar/diary dates tool. It is by no means complete and will always be getting new content added/updated. Our web team are working with the sections to get content populated. Many leaders are meeting in the coming months to look at 2018 events – so keep a beady eye on the page.

Eleanor gave her Queen’s Scout Award presentation to scouts, leaders and family. An emotional and heartfelt journey that every scout can aspire to echo.

Young Leader empowerment

Scouting is very much about empowering our members and giving them opportunities to flourish and shine. The Bella Vista young leader team met this weekend to plan a camp they’re organising for the Cubs.

Miscellaneous shout outs

  • Enigma Scouts completed some first aid training at Monday’s troop meeting
  • Viernes Scouts went into Penistone completing a Scavenger Hunt
  • Many sections got all Christmas crafty (Wibbles, Bella Vista and Boomers to name but a few)
  • Alison and Brian ran a full day’s First Aid training at the Scout Hut
  • Raptors visited Winter Wonderland at Hesley Wood Scout Activity Centre

Reminders

Christmas Celebration Event – The group Christmas celebration event takes place on Monday 4th December. This event is open to all group members and their families. Please wear uniform but add festive items to your ensembles! Please bring whatever donations you can for the Trussell Trust collection. Like Remembrance Sunday, this is one of the very few occasions where Beavers, Cubs, Scouts, Explorers and the Young Leaders are expected to attend. Full details here

Beaver Sleepover – Not long until the Beaver Christmas sleepover. Parents/Guardians, we have some top secret stuff that we need you to please read and send back. Full details here

Cub Sleepover (National Coal Mining museum) – Next weekend (9th / 10th) is the Cubs Christmas sleepover. There are a handful of places left for this event. If your Cub would like to go, you can still book a place. Full details here
Wednesday & Friday Beavers – This week, the Wednesday and Friday Beavers will have their meeting together, on the 6th December. They are going for a walk and therefore need to be suitably dressed in warm clothing and strong footwear.
Christmas events – There are several special events coming up in the diary. These may mean that your section meets on a different night and/or at a different location to normal. We will send reminders; however, in most cases, the information should be in the group calendar here

Thank you

Aviva Community Fund – Thank you all for your much-appreciated votes. The voting round has now closed and we’re eagerly awaiting results.
New volunteers – We’ve had some great responses to our request for more adult support. Some new volunteers have started supporting the group and ultimately the young people in a variety of ways. We still need more people, so even if you’ve only 1/2 an hour to spare on an irregular basis, please have a look at our volunteering opportunities here
See you at the Christmas Service tomorrow!
