Being a volunteer is immensely rewarding, doing so at Penistone Scouts’ is, quite frankly, an awesome experience.

From working with the young people, developing and delivering a balanced, challenging and rewarding programme, to back office roles where you’ll make a massive difference to the group (without being face-to-face with the young people) we’ve opportunities to suit every volunteer’s available time.

Working with young people

Right now, the young people would greatly benefit from regular or irregular adult support at the following section meetings:

  • Thursday Cubs (6:30-8pm)
  • Thursday Beavers (6:15-7:30pm)
  • Friday Scouts (7-9:15pm)

If you aren’t able to support the above, we do have some other section meetings that we would never turn away additional support for; we haven’t included them here because the above meetings are where we currently need to focus our recruitment.

Beavers are 6-8 years old. Cubs are 8-10.5 years old. Scouts are 10.5 to 14.5 years old. Explorers are 14 to 18 years old. All our meetings are based at the Scout Activity Centre in Penistone, online via Zoom, or out and about.

Non-young person facing roles

We are also seeking charity trustees to supplement our Executive Committee. Perhaps the best example of a comparable role, would be one of a School Governor. The Executive committee meets roughly every six weeks, with ad hoc sub-committee meetings as appropriate.
