WHAT A SUCCESSFUL SWISS SUMMER

Whilst for many Summer has been a time to holiday and relax, 79 intrepid scouts, explorers, and leaders went off to Adelboden in Switzerland to savour the scenery, experience the adrenaline of adventurous activities and enjoy the culture whilst living in a traditional Swiss village in the mountains.

Adelboden didn’t let us down, from the start of our journey to the end we had a magnificent time.

DAY ONE

After a delayed journey due to ferries in the channel we arrived, later afternoon and spent a leisurely evening settling in, freshening up and getting ready for the week.

DAY TWO

Off to the mountains, hiking passes in hand off we went from Oey for a day hiking through the local mountains, we didn’t get much further than Silleren where our party enjoyed a few hours on the high tower in between storms, one  minute it was clear blue skies and the sunshine the next it was angry black clouds, thunder, lightning, and hailstones.

DAY THREE

The Schilthorn! After several cable car trips, we arrived at the SCHILTHORN PIZ GLORIA, former Bond villain base and now a revolving restaurant, Bond museum and the perfect place to soak up the glorious views. next stop Birg where we took in the new thrill walk which consists of glass floors, balancing wires and a mesh tunnel suspended hundreds of feet in the air attached to the side of the mountain and lastly a brief stop in Murren for hot chocolate.

DAY FOUR

Four activities today, white water rafting, a visit to the waterfall at Engstiligenalp, swimming and the Switzerland national day parade in Adelboden with music and fireworks.

DAY FIVE

Off to Interlaken for a boat trip to Brienz on a beautiful blue lake followed by SWISS NIGHT, meeting hundreds of scouts and guides up in the mountains for food and traditional Swiss music

DAY SIX

A day of zipping about in the adventure park, followed by Swimming in the pool at Adelboden.

DAY SEVEN

A hike to the woodcarvers, a family run business in the mountains and then a coach ride to Kandersteg and Oeschinensee for the toboggan run, a visit to the blue lake and finally a quick visit to the international scout centre.

DAY EIGHT

Packing up, then a few hours in Adelboden for lunch and a few last-minute souvenirs; followed by the trip home.

A huge thank you to all the leaders and kids for making this such a brilliant and enjoyable trip, I loved every minute and even though this was my 4th time, it just gets better and better.

A massive thank you, 60 scouts and explorers, who were shining ambassadors for scouting and the UK, I couldn’t have asked for a better bunch. Lastly thank you to Jeka (Jayne, Nicola and Shaun), The drivers from Abbotts Coaches and the many people who supported us to get to Switzerland.
