Eight scouts from our Wibbles troop travelled by train to the Peak District this weekend to complete their Expedition Challenge Badge.

They met Ranger Harriet after a busy train journey and started off with a bit of pond dipping. They saw Neville the newt and his friend Stun the frog (named “Stun” as he didn’t move at all and turned out to probably be dead). They also found lots of wiggly things that will turn into other insects and creatures.

After lunch, the scouts went for a short walk from their base location of Brunt’s Barn to find a fallen tree that was blocking a footpath. They took work gloves and equipment with them and set about lopping branches so they could saw the main bits. A very physical task that they all enjoyed and had a great result at the end.

On Sunday, a delicious breakfast and preparation for lunch before a walk into Padley Gorge to look at the landscape, wildlife and explore along the riverbank. The scouts returned to the barn to say farewell to their Rangers before a welcome ice cream and the train ride home.

This was a great, fun weekend where the scouts learned loads and made lots of new friends. Well done!

Shauna would like to thank Wibbles Scout Troop for letting her be a day visitor so she could complete her Expedition challenge badge recce for Enigma Scouts.
