Reminders & key information:

It’s the Easter holidays! For the next two weeks, there will be no regular section meetings.

We start back the week commencing 9th April. Look out for one of our “Fast Forward” posts on Sunday 8th April; we’ll use that to share with you any reminders and key information.

This edition’s reminders:

Beavers

Back to basics camp – We have a one night camp scheduled for June. This is an opportunity for our beavers to experience and get to grips with some scouting basics. Please book on via your section leader. The dedicated event page is here.

Cubs

Alegre/Bella Vista – We have a joint cub meeting at Wortley Rugby club on the 19th April. This event does have a limited number of spaces; please make sure you book on with Shauna – places will be reserved on a first come, first served basis. The dedicated event page is here.

Scouts

Black Country (Summer Camp 2018) – Deposits are now overdue for our scout and explorer summer camp to the Black Country. If your young person would like to go, please let Amy know ASAP.

Scouts & Explorers

Krakow (Poland) 2019 Information evening – We’re hosting an information evening (6th April 2018) regarding our planned trip to Poland next year. The trip is open to scouts who will be aged 12+ after 21st April 2019, explorers, leaders and parents/guardians. Please bring your chequebooks as deposits will be required.

Explorers

Caving (Explorers) – On Sunday 8th April, our explorer unit will be heading on their scheduled caving trip.

Everyone

Help needed – On Tuesday 27th March, we need adult support at the scout hut from 18:15. We need to clear the loft out in readiness for the ceiling and lighting being replaced. If you can, please come down in your old clothes – tea and coffee will be supplied, maybe even a biscuit or two!

With the reminders out of the way, let’s recap the week and see the additional footage.

This week:

Barnsley District awards evening

Last Tuesday evening, proud beavers, cubs, scouts and leaders met at the Barnsley District Scouts’ awards evening, receiving their prestigious awards from Barnsley’s Deputy Mayor.

Well done to everyone for their hard work in achieving them and making leaders, families and our scout group proud of them too.

Special mention to Henry, who also received a personal recognition award from the Deputy Mayor on behalf of Chief Scout Bear Grylls for overcoming personal challenges in his scouting journey so far. Well done!

Wibbles Easter fun

Scouts from our Wibbles troop had a chocolate-themed evening involving making micro fruit kebabs and chocolate bingo which got pulses racing! They also raised a £42 donation towards the Jamboree fund. Thank-you.

Beaver Easter bunny hunt

Beavers from all three colonies met at Cubley hall for our annual Easter bunny hunt. We would like to say a huge thank you to the parents who volunteered to join the fun and make the event possible. Also, a special thank you to Cubley Hall for providing us with a room and drinks for the meeting!

Cubs treasure hunt

Our cubs took part in treasure hunts; Alegre and Bella Vista at the scout hut and Raptors at St Saviours Church.

Enigma Entertainer’s badge-work

Our Monday scout troop completed their Entertainer’s Badge. After a hasty rehearsal at the beginning of the week, they put on a performance for parents. We also invested a couple of scouts!

Viernes wide game

Our Friday scouts headed out to the local park to take part in a “wide game”.

Leader training

Our leaders had the opportunity to drop into the scout hut on Sunday to: validate training modules, undertake some guided training and talk through their training plans. Thank you to all those who came down.

Viernes caving trip

Our initial caving trip for Friday scouts was snowed off in February. Thank you to Jim for driving the bus, Amy for making up leader numbers and Sam for working with the Derbyshire NW Scout Caving Team to make this possible.

And finally:

Textiles collection

Huge thank you to everyone who has donated textiles to for the jamboree weigh-in. We’ve got quite a collection thus far!
