Reminders & key information:

This edition’s reminders:

Beavers

All Beavers colonies are walking around Royd Moor Reservoir on Wednesday 9th May. Please see the dedicated event page for full details here. There won’t be a Tuesday or Friday beaver meeting.

Back to Basics Camp – Last chance to book a place for our “Back to Basics” camp at Silverwood in June. The dedicated event page is here.

Cubs

Raptors – meeting at Thurlstone school at the usual time; we will be doing some badge work this week. Rob is ‘knot’ sure they will come home clean. (He’s very sorry for the pun though!).

Alegre / Bella Vista – Both packs are going for a walk around Langsett Reservoir this week. Please meet at the car park at 18:30 on your normal pack meeting day; if your Cub won’t be attending, please let Shauna know so that we won’t be waiting around for you. For collection, they will be at the same location at 20:00 (ish!) – this depends on how quickly the Cub’s walk.

Scouts

Wibbles – Please meet at the Scout Hut at your usual time.

Enigma – There will be no meeting this week due to the bank holiday.

Viernes – There will be no meeting this week due to Subzero Sleepover taking place on Friday.

Summer Camp – Deposits are overdue for a number of people, we’ve made some financial commitments and therefore places booked are considered firm and the balance is due towards the end of the month. We will send out some reminder emails in the coming week. If you are unsure of what’s left to pay, please speak to Amy. The dedicated event page is here.

Explorers

Scorpions – Please meet at the Scout Hut at your usual time.

Everyone

Subzero Sleepover – This Friday is the group sleepover at Ice Sheffield. Please make sure you’ve read the final letter, filled out the consent form and paid your Section Leader. Unfortunately, any cancellations still require full payment due to us having confirmed places with the venue.

Jamboree bag pack – The jamboree folks from Penistone continue their fundraising escapades, this time, at Morrisons in Ecclesfield.

Scouttastic – In a couple of months, we’ll be at Hesley Wood for Scouttastic. If you’ve booked a place, we need to start making sure that monies are please paid to your Section Leaders. The group have already committed places.

With the reminders out of the way, let’s recap the week and see the additional footage.

This week:

Cycle badge (Week 2)

Scouts from our Monday scout troop have been working toward their cycling badge. This week they cycled to Dunford Bridge and back.

Silkstone to Penistone Hike

Viernes Scouts tested out their map reading skills this week whilst hiking from Silkstone Common train station to Penistone. Although there was a mixed amount of success at map reading, all the scouts enjoyed finishing the night off at the local chip shop.

Pizzas on fire(s)

Castor beavers and Alegre cubs enjoyed a joint meeting this week making pizzas on fires and playing games. Boomer beavers also made pizzas on fires and completed some of their teamwork challenge award by being helpful by clearing up at the end of the meeting.

Recycling Beavers

Millstones beavers spent the evening learning about the importance of recycling and caring for our environment, working towards their global issues challenge badge. They made posters to inform others about what they had found out and plan to save the planet!

Taekwondo a hit amongst Bella Vista

Bella Vista cubs went along to Quest Taekwondo this week to have a go and find out what it’s all about.

Nature Hike

Raptor Cubs hiked from Penistone to St. Saviours church this week, fitting in three road crossings as part of their road safety badge.

Wibbles cook-up a feast for their Chef’s badge

Wibbles scout troop have been working on their Chef’s badge over the last few weeks, finishing off this week by having a cooking competition this week. The scouts bought and prepared their own food for the leaders to try, getting marks out of 10 for taste, explanation and presentation.

Viernes caving trip

Some of Friday Scouts headed out to Derbyshire to cave with the Derbyshire NW Scout Caving Team.

And finally:

Jamboree fundraising at Tour de Yorkshire

Our Scout Jamboree team were in Penistone’s Market Barn during this year’s Tour de Yorkshire. They were manning a refreshment stall and beginning to cycle the 3,710 miles it is between Penistone and the Jamboree site in West Virginia, USA. They raised a fantastic £482 – thank you to everyone who supported them.
