We were staggered to recently see some headquarters stats that many parents/guardians want to help but have never been asked. At Penistone, we aren’t backward at coming forwards for asking for your support. We’ve worked at being more specific about our needs, recognising that blanket appeals don’t work brilliantly.

National statistic for Scouting

Following our recent appeal for a new Treasurer, we are delighted to share that Edwin Burkinshaw stepped forward. Edwin was a beaver, cub, scout, explorer and a young leader at Penistone Scouts. Whilst at university, he supported the SSAGO (Student Scout And Guide Organisation), including holding a treasurer role with them. Gill Millner, after almost three years, is in the process of handing over the financial reins. Thank you so much for all your contributions, Gill, and thank you, Edwin, for all you’ll do for the young people of Penistone Scouts!

We are fortunate to welcome Carolyn Pinel to Penistone Scouts. Having moved to Penistone from abroad recently, Carolyn (and her daughter) are keen to support the group. Both had been heavily involved in scouting before their move. Carolyn has joined the cub team and will be leading our Alegre cub pack (Tuesdays). Some of you will have already met her on our virtual cub sessions. We can’t wait to meet her in person.

Carolyn (Cub Scout Leader), Claire (Trustee), Janet (Membership Secretary) [Left to Right]

After several years supporting the group primarily as the membership secretary, Claire Dawson is stepping down from her trustee role. Claire continues to support the group ad hoc, and we’re sure she will be present at future camps and events. Janet Worthington, an existing trustee, is taking on managing our group’s waiting list from Claire. Massive thank you to both of you. Scouting is extremely popular, and we regularly receive membership applications.

We are delighted to share we’ve several others who’ve come forward and are in the process of onboarding as group volunteers. This doesn’t mean we’ve addressed our support needs – so if you’re looking for something new, exciting, and rewarding either face-to-face with the young people or behind the scenes supporting scouting, we’d love to hear from you.

As always, a huge thank you to everyone who willingly gives up their time to keep scouting in Penistone a success. Without you, the young people just wouldn’t have the same opportunities and excitement!
