This week:
Preparations for Remembrance Sunday
Many of the sections learnt about Remembrance Sunday. Baking and creating poppies being a common theme for many evenings.
Explorers graffiti Penistone
Our explorers headed into Penistone in the dead of night (well almost – it was about 8 pm) with stencils and spray chalk. They decorated much of Penistone centre with poppies and Remembrance slogans. Thankfully, the community responded – they loved it!
Bruce wrote a great post about it. Have a read here
Ghost walk
Viernes headed into Sheffield, by train, and enjoyed a guided ghost tour before rounding off the evening with a cheeky McDonalds.
Remembrance Sunday
We are a large Scout group and because some of our sections meet in Thurlstone, we had attendance at two Remembrance services this year. Millstones and Raptors at Thurlstone, with the rest of the group in central Penistone.

Penistone Scout Group’s digital journey keeps gettng better
After some perseverance, our media/web man (that’s me by the way!) managed to get the Group on to Microsoft’s software donation programme. Whilst this isn’t the most exciting of new to many, it’s huge for the group given that we now have access to the Office 365 platform free of charge. Sectional email addresses and email addresses for leaders are in the works. This will make a massive difference in helping with the administrative side of Scouting. We want to enable our volunteers, not constrain them!
This coming week
Monday evening sees the Group Executive meeting.
Friday night is party night – well, it is for many of the leader team. The annual South Yorkshire County Ball takes place. We might get lucky and be able to share some snaps of folks wearing suits rather than those fetching beige uniforms!
Reminder: Please keep voting
We are seeking funds in the Aviva Community Awards. If you haven’t had chance to vote for the Group yet, please see details here
And finally
We’re really pleased with the website and how many of you are visiting, seeing/sharing pictures and posts. We will be fleshing out some of the key sections with lots more information in the coming weeks. In short, making sure all letters get added to the letters page, and events make it on to the calendar so that the website is/remains your one stop shop for all things Penistone Scouts. If you’d like to offer any feedback or comments, please do, get in touch.
